SUMMARY:In Beauty and in Sorrow: Writing Poems as a Tool for Meeting the All of It
DESCRIPTION:\nI’m looking forward to gathering at the Sunflower Theatre in Cortez, CO, for a day of poetry, curiosity, and connection—an invitation to meet all of life, in beauty and in sorrow, through the written word.\nYou can get tickets and find out more here ( https://sunflowertheatre.org/events/rosemerry-wahtola-trommer-poetry-writing-workshop/ ). \nA detailed description below: \nEvery experience in life is worthy of our careful attention—and poetry provides a way to meet each experience with wonder, and a willingness to witness the ever-unfolding story of our own lives and the story of our world. Though a poem can’t change the facts, it can change the way we meet the facts, and this can change everything.\nTogether we’ll read poems, converse about them, use them as launching points for our own writing and talk about process. We’ll explore playing with metaphors and paradox, letting curiosity lead us past the edge of what we think we know into new possibilities for framing a moment. We’ll be less interested in writing something perfect and more interested in discovering our own stumbling blocks and epiphanies.\n\n\nRosemerry says, “I create safe, nourishing, welcoming places for people to explore their own creative practice. I encourage vulnerability, authenticity, deep listening, personal inquiry, play, self-compassion, and generosity of spirit. I believe that poems themselves don’t change the world, but when we write poems, we have the chance to change the way we see the world, and THAT changes everything. When we transform who we are, we transform the world.”\n
