September Thoughtshop: Poetry of Persevering: Writing into the Pain of the World

I’m looking forward to sharing an hour of poems and reflection—an invitation to stay present with the world as it is, and to find a way forward together.

You can register and find more information here.

A detailed description below:

When the whole world seems to be in upheaval, why on earth would we write poems? In this hour-long webinar-style program, Rosemerry will share poems that help keep our eyes and hearts open to it all, poems that help us turn unflinchingly toward the horror and find a way forward. She will then offer invitations for you to do your own writing later. There will be time for questions and responses. After the event, all who register will receive a link to the recording, links to the poems she reads, plus the writing invitations.

Perhaps reading and writing a poem can’t “fix” anything, but poetry can help us remember our common humanity. It can remind us what and who we love and why goodness is worth working for. It can help us be present in a burning world. “Of all the dangers we face, from climate chaos to permanent war, none is so great as this deadening of our response,” writes the eco-philosopher Joanna Macy. “For psychic numbing impedes our capacity to process and respond to information. The energy expended in pushing down despair is diverted from crucial uses, depleting the resilience and imagination needed for fresh visions and strategies.”

Let’s come alive together.
