The Art of Truly Seeing: Rilke and Rodin
Join poet Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer and cultural historian Kayleen Asbo for an inspiring three-week series that weaves together art and poetry as prompts for your own creative writing exploration.
Rilke was a student of art history, and no art affected him more powerfully than the sculptures of Rodin. After authoring a monograph on Rodin’s process, Rilke became Rodin’s private secretary. In return, Rodin mentored the young poet in the art of truly seeing. As we encounter the fascinating relationship between the two men and the works of genius they created, we will explore the themes of love and loss, the identity of our true self, and facing our mortality.
