Falling in Love with the Broken World: An Open-Hearted Poetic Experience

Can we celebrate desperation itself? How do we turn toward hurt and stay open to beauty, wonder, love? Poems invite us to embody paradox…Sometimes, in our most desperate moments, we find an impossible invitation—the invitation to praise. How can this be? How, when we are undone by heartache, can we at the same time celebrate some aspect of life? And how, is it possible, can we celebrate the desperation itself? How do we turn toward what hurts and stay open to beauty, wonder, love? Poems can be remarkable vessels, inviting us to embody paradox, opening to the full spectrum of feeling all at once. In this playful, intimate program, Rosemerry will share poems that model how our writing might expand our ideas of what is possible, then invite participants to write their own poems that alchemize their own lives, then talk about process. Sharing will be optional. Bring your skeptical self, and your willingness to be astonished, too. We’ll play. All levels of experience welcome
