Wonderment and the Art of Being Alive: A poetic invitation
February 17 - February 20
Poetry can help open so many doors—doors of healing, doors of curiosity, doors of wonder. For two days, reading poems together, we’ll be exploring saying yes to the world, compassion and the art of paying attention—how these three themes bring us into a more present, more connected, more joyful way to engage with the world. No poetry experience necessary—only your willingness to feel, to listen. We’ll be reading from the acclaimed and heart-expanding anthology Poetry of Presence: An Anthology of Mindfulness Poems. Guiding you in this journey is poet Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer.
Rosemerry served as the third Colorado Western Slope Poet Laureate (2015-2017), co-hosts Emerging Form (a podcast on creative process), is the co-founder of Secret Agents of Change and co-directs Telluride’s Talking Gourds Poetry Club. Her poetry has appeared in O Magazine, on A Prairie Home Companion, in Rattle.com, and on river rocks. Her most recent collection is Naked for Tea, a finalist for the Able Muse book award in 2018 and in 2020, look for her latest book Hush, winner of the Halcyon Poetry Prize for poems of human ecology. She teaches poetry for 12-step recovery programs, hospice, mindfulness retreats, women’s retreats, scientists and more. Since 2006, she’s written a poem a day.
