Self-Compassion & the Poet’s Heart

by rosemerryt@gmail.com

I love my conversations with James Navé, writing teacher and poet and performer, and this is my fourth time as a guest on his show Twice 5 Miles Radio. We’ve been playing poetry together for over 20 years! In this episode we explore self-compassion as an essential part of a writing practice. We also talk about revision and look at how a poem from my most recent book, “Self-Compassion” found in The Unfolding, changed its ending three times—and why. We talk about embodiment and play and so much more!

James writes, “We discuss Rosemerry’s philosophy on self-compassion, how poetry tunes us into the subtleties of our bodies, and why even moments of struggle or uncertainty can be creative openings. For Rosemerry, the poetic journey is one of constant exploration, where even the smallest moments offer potential. ‘What if we treated our bodies like our poetry?’ she asks, drawing an illuminating parallel between artistic and personal growth.

“Join us as we journey through Rosemarie’s philosophy and poetry’s remarkable capacity to connect, comfort, and awaken us to the beauty of everyday moments.”

Thank you for hosting me, James!
